Sony Offers $10K Scholarship to Women Entering Game Biz


Sony Online Entertainment is now accepting applications for a scholarship that aims to encourage women to explore the field of videogame production and design.

The third annual G.I.R.L. Scholarship will grant up to $10,000 toward a single student’s tuition and education expenses. The winner will have the option of participating in a 10-week internship with SOE, expenses not included.

2008 winner Julia Brasil (pictured), a San Francisco native, took advantage of the internship opportunity and spent ten weeks shadowing the crew at Sony Online. Rebecca Gleason, a student at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis used her winnings to study experience design.

Applicants must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program related to video games. More details regarding the rules can be found at the G.I.R.L. website. Applications for the scholarship will be administered by Scholarship America, and must be submitted by February 15. So get cracking.
